Joseph Reese Sr. owned a modest number of slaves, for the time period, when he died around 1826. Some sources suggest that the woman named Cherry and the child called Riddick were the wife and son of Nat Turner, respectively. Some historians speculate that Edith may have been the wife of Hark Moore, and that Tom may have been their son.
