NAT TURNER CRACKLING BREAD
2 cups corn meal 1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup flour 1-1/4 cups warm water or
1 cup fresh cracklings milk
Mix and sift dry ingredients, add cracklings and stir. Add water or
milk and stir until mixture can be handled well. Form into pones and
place into baking pan. Bake at 425 degrees F. 25 minutes or until brown.
. . . It is said that his favorite dish was known to be crackling bread and sweet potatoes, baked in hot ashes.
